Vision Correction Techniques: LASIK & PRK

Clear vision is more than a number on a prescription: it’s comfort, independence, and freedom in your daily life.

For patients who qualify, LASIK and PRK are proven laser procedures that reshape the cornea to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses and contact lenses.

During your MedValet journey, your refractive surgeon will evaluate your cornea, prescription, and lifestyle to determine whether LASIK or PRK is the safest and most effective option for you, then design a fully personalized treatment plan around your eyes.

About LASIK

LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis) is a refractive surgery that uses a computer-guided laser to reshape the cornea so light focuses more precisely on the retina, reducing or eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses. A very thin flap is created in the cornea, gently lifted, and the laser sculpts the underlying tissue to correct myopia, hyperopia and/or astigmatism. The flap is then repositioned, acting like a natural bandage, which is why visual recovery is usually fast and discomfort is limited for most patients.

About PRK

PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) uses the same type of excimer laser as LASIK to reshape the cornea, but without creating a corneal flap. Instead, the thin outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) is gently removed, the laser is applied directly to the surface, and then a soft bandage contact lens is placed while the epithelium regenerates over several days. PRK corrects the same types of refractive errors as LASIK and can offer equally good long-term vision, but early recovery is slower and there is a bit more short-term discomfort as the surface heals.

Differences of LASIK & PRK

Both LASIK and PRK aim for the same goal: clearer, more independent vision. However they differ how the cornea is treated and how recovery feels. LASIK is usually chosen when corneal thickness and shape allow for a safe flap and a faster return to work or travel. PRK is often preferred for thinner corneas, certain prescriptions, or patients whose job or sports make a flap less ideal. Your surgeon will assess your eyes and lifestyle to recommend the option that offers the best balance of safety, stability, and visual quality for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

International flights. Once your personalized plan is confirmed, we’ll advise on ideal dates and can help you find the best connection.

It depends on your prescription, corneal thickness/shape, eye health, and stability of your vision. Your refractive surgeon will confirm candidacy after full measurements and examination.

Critical. Correct use of drops, eye protection, and follow-up visits directly influences healing quality, comfort, and final vision. Skipping or changing drops on your own can harm results.

Our MedPartner clinic offers a results guarantee for up to 6 months: if the outcome is suboptimal, your case is reassessed and, where medically safe, an enhancement procedure will be performed at no additional surgical cost.

LASIK usually offers functional vision within a few days; PRK takes longer in the first week. Generally, patients are ready to fly 7 nights after their surgery.
