USD 19,500. This is not a surgery-only quote. The standard journey covers surgery with two knee surgeons, 19 nights of recovery accommodation, pre-operative evaluations, the medication kit, complications insurance where eligible, recovery equipment, all local transport, 24 physiotherapy sessions: 12 in person in Medellín and 12 remote across your first six weeks home, and nurse visits. Flights, meals beyond the accommodation breakfast plan, your companion’s flights and personal expenses, and travel documents. If the surgeon identifies a clinically necessary addition outside the standard pathway, it is quoted and approved before commitment.

The case review and discovery call are free. The surgeon consultation is USD 200 and is applied in full against your journey if you proceed. The deposit is requested only after you accept the personalized quote and confirms the surgery date.

Payment methods, deadlines and any processing charges are stated in your personalized quote and patient agreement before money changes hands.

Surgeons, clinics and safety

Dr. Alejandro Jaramillo and Dr. Paula Sarmiento, both specialists in orthopedics and traumatology with advanced knee-focused training, operate together from incision to closure. Their formal qualifications, registrations, verified SCCOT membership, publications and practice locations are published on their profile pages.

At Clínica del Campestre or Clínica Llanogrande, selected private surgical facilities in the Medellín area. The final venue is confirmed in your clinical pathway. Any accreditation claim on this website will name the accrediting body and scope.

The partner facilities work with Smith & Nephew, Zimmer Biomet and Stryker systems. Your surgeon selects the specific implant based on your anatomy and clinical needs, and the manufacturer reference is included in your documentation.

Ask any provider, including MedValet, for the named surgeon and professional registration, the surgical facility and its regulatory or accreditation status, the implant manufacturer, and a written list of everything the price includes.

Where eligible, Pan American Life complications insurance applies to procedure-related complications during the recovery window in Colombia, up to 30 days from surgery. Written insurer terms are provided before the deposit. After you return home, your surgical team remains reachable and you leave with documentation a local orthopedist can act on.

The stay

The standard plan is 19 nights, with departure on day 20. Surgery is planned for day four. Your surgeon confirms clearance to fly in person before departure, and the stay may be extended when recovery requires it.

You return to your recovery accommodation the same day using medical transport, with an overnight nurse and clinical follow-up arranged according to your case. The exact protocol is set by the treating team.

Yes. Your companion stays with you in the included accommodation and receives a dedicated pre-arrival briefing, surgery-day guidance and daily contact through the first week.

No. Your Patient Journey Director attends medical appointments and translates when needed. The surgeon profile pages state each clinician’s verified languages.

Entry requirements depend on nationality and can change. Check the current requirements with the official Colombian consulate or embassy source before booking travel. MedValet can point you to the official source but does not provide immigration advice.

Candidacy and recovery

An honest preliminary answer requires your history and imaging. The case review can identify whether the pathway appears appropriate, including when surgery is not right for you or not yet. A formal clinical opinion comes from the surgeon consultation.

Yes. We can begin reviewing your information, but clinical screening cannot be completed until the requested X-ray and photographs arrive.

BMI and other medical risk factors are reviewed by the surgical team. Any numeric threshold published on the site must be approved by the surgeons and supported by a current source.

Early mobility and progression from walker to cane vary by patient. The package page shows the standard pathway MedValet plans around, but your milestones are set by the treating clinicians and your progress.

Twelve remote physiotherapy sessions are included across the first six weeks home, together with scheduled Patient Journey Director check-ins and surgeon follow-up. You also leave with the operative report, implant documentation and physiotherapy notes.

Working with medvalet

A medical-travel facilitator focused on knee replacement in Medellín. MedValet does not provide medical care. We coordinate the journey around licensed clinicians and facilities and remain your single point of contact.

Within 3 to 5 business days after the information required for preliminary review is complete. If imaging is missing, we explain what is needed and hold the clinical screening until it arrives.
